A WINDOW INTO ISTANBUL

ALI IHTIYAR

Istanbul… City of legends, great loves, slums and waterside mansions, hunger and orgies. On the one side garbage blows up, on the other side fireworks. Each district tells a different story. Oldest and newest colours and sounds are intertwined here. Songs and poems are written for it. Modern and ancient times are cuddled up together. History walks on its streets. It was the capital of three great empires. Joining Roman, Byzantine, Genoese, Arab, Jewish, Armenian, Greek, Kurdish and Turkish footsteps, this city has become the European capital of cultural for the year 2010... Incessantly making love with the sea, Istanbul holds the hands of the east and the west on two continents. It has been an object of desire throughout history. However, it has always proven wrong all those who think that they own it. Istanbul beats like a pulse, and it is impossible to possess. Istanbul never ends. It continues to grow while you look at it. This photograph exhibition aims to open up a black and white window into the streets and the historical texture of Istanbul. Wishing you to enjoy from this window the beauty of this most significant city in the history of humankind.
